Australian Open Kiwi Umpires
Australian Open kiwi umpires numbers grew by marriage, import
and new attendees(2). The photo attached has the "kiwi" contingent
who were umpiring in the Australian Open Main draw matches. Many of
those pictured umpired on Rod Laver Arena and Hisense arena with
the world's top players and it will be a great part of their
umpiring memories to be part of this event.
Pictured in the photo are Tony Glentworth (CHCH), Chris Temu
(AKLD), Matt Burrell (WGTN), Dave Ouellet (CAN) (Married to kiwi
Paula), Mattias Wieland (1st time CHCH via Switzerland),
Blaze Trifunovski (GER) (ex Auckland), Paula Ouellet (nee Windelev
from WGTN now resident in Vancouver Canada), David Crees
(1st time WGTN), Francois Horion (WGTN, via Australia
& France) and Dimitar Trifunovski (AKLD). It is the intention
of NZTUA to grow the number of officials that attend the Australian
Open and return to the days when up to a dozen used to make the
trip to Melbourne for the Grand Slam of Asia/Oceania
